Frequently Asked Questions

Learn More

Check out the answers to some frequently asked questions below. Keep in mind that the best way to get all of your questions answered and to learn how The Psychological Catalyst Collective can meet your needs is to schedule a free 15-minute consultation.

The Psychological Catalyst Collective offers two distinct service types: 1) psychotherapy for mental health concerns, and 2) sports psychology mental skills training for performance improvement. For more information, click the Services tab at the top right of your screen.

The goal of the first one or two sessions is to gather information in order to understand your concerns and to determine what approach would be most useful to you. A basic understanding is usually achieved by the end of the first session; however, it is sometimes necessary to continue with this process over additional sessions. Psychotherapy involves talking about whatever is on your mind or concerning you. As a psychologist, I will listen carefully, look for patterns in your thinking and behavior, point out alternative interpretations of events or strategies for problem solving, and help you to learn to live with difficult emotions.

Most clients will attend one psychotherapy visit per week, but the frequency varies depending upon your individual needs and preference. The average therapy client attends around 12 sessions.

The Psychological Catalyst Collective provides evidence-based treatment. This means that the most current research evidence, the clinician's expertise, and your values and preferences are all considered during the collaborative treatment process. More specifically, Dr. Marx primarily provides Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, drawing from other modalities as appropriate.
